Questions

Planning a wedding or event comes with approximately 8,742 tiny questions.

We’ve answered the ones we hear most below.

General Questions

Do you service areas outside Christchurch?

Absolutely. While we’re Christchurch-based, our events regularly take us around the wider South Island, including Blenheim, Queenstown, Wānaka and Dunedin.

For small hire orders, you’re also welcome to collect from our Christchurch warehouse and transport your items to your event location yourself. You’ll just need suitable, covered transport and everything must be safely secured.

For larger orders and furniture hire, our team handles delivery and collection.

Have somewhere further afield in mind? Get in touch and we can chat through what’s possible.

Can I come in and look at your furniture and hire collection?

Yes, but our showroom is open by appointment rather than for walk-ins.

We’re often preparing orders or out creating events, so booking a time means one of our experienced team can actually be there to help you. We can walk you through pieces, talk quantities and make recommendations rather than leaving you to wander around a warehouse wondering whether six cocktail tables is enough.

Book a consultation and we’ll make sure the right person is there for you.

Do I need a consultation?

Not necessarily.

If you know exactly what you need and simply want to hire a few pieces, you can absolutely book without one.

If you’re planning a wedding, working through layouts and guest flow, trying to choose between furniture combinations, or staring at a Pinterest board thinking, I love all of this, but how does it actually become an event?, a consultation is well worth it.

We’ll talk through your venue, guest numbers, logistics, style and priorities so you can make confident decisions rather than expensive guesses.

Why is there a consultation fee?

Because you’re getting more than a showroom tour.

Your consultation is dedicated time with an experienced member of our team. We’ll work through your event, venue, guest numbers, logistics, furniture requirements and styling considerations, then help you determine what will actually work.

Our hire prices cover the hire of the products themselves. Creative direction, planning and professional styling advice are separate services.

Think less sales appointment, more expert brain on your event for an hour.

Why is there a fee for a site visit?

A site visit involves both our professional expertise and the time and costs involved in getting our team to your venue or property.

The fee takes into account travel time, mileage and vehicle costs, as well as the time we spend on site assessing things like access, measurements, layouts, marquee placement, furniture positioning and any logistical considerations specific to your event.

It means we can identify potential issues early, answer questions specific to your site and make sure what we’re planning will actually work in the space.

It’s professional planning time, just happening at your place rather than ours.

Do you work with both weddings and events?

Absolutely.

We work across corporate events, conferences, brand activations, celebrations and private events including weddings. Depending on what you need, we can help with hire, marquees, styling and design, florals, signage, coordination, set-up and pack-down.

Booking + Hiring

How do I make a booking?

Start by favouriting the pieces you love from our hire collection and submitting your wishlist to us. You can also tell us about any additional services you’re interested in.

We’ll check availability and put together a proposal for you.

One important thing to know: a proposal does not reserve your items or date. Your booking is confirmed once the required booking fee has been paid.

Then those beauties are officially yours for the date.

How far in advance should I book?

For weddings, we recommend booking key hire items and services at least six months ahead where possible.

If you’re only looking for smaller hire pieces, three to four months is often enough.

Everything is booked on a first-in, first-served basis, so if there are particular pieces or services you really want, booking earlier gives you the best choice.

Is there a minimum hire order?

During our high season, our minimum hire order is $300 including GST. This excludes services such as delivery, collection, set-up and pack-down.

For bookings of $330 including GST or less, full payment is required to confirm the booking.

How long is the hire period?

Our standard hire period allows up to three consecutive days, with the items priced for use on one event day.

This gives you breathing room to collect before your event and return afterwards without turning your event day into a logistical relay race.

If you’d like to use your hire items across multiple event days, let us know. Additional hire charges will apply and we can work through this with you.

How are hire items priced?

Hire pricing is per individual item unless stated otherwise.

The price shown covers the hire of the item itself. Services such as delivery, collection, set-up, pack-down and styling are separate, so you only pay for the level of support you actually need.

Pricing is inclusive of GST unless stated otherwise.

Can I add items after I’ve booked?

Absolutely, subject to availability.

If your plans evolve and you realise you need another table, twelve more chairs or that sofa you definitely weren’t thinking about three weeks ago, email us and we’ll check availability.

Because our collection is shared across multiple events, we recommend adding any must-have pieces sooner rather than later.

Can I reduce my quantities once I’ve booked?

Yes, depending on how close you are to your event and the size of the change.

If your guest numbers change, send us your updated quantities as soon as you know them and we can talk you through what can be adjusted.

Reductions of more than 10% of an item quantity are considered a cancellation under our Terms & Conditions, so cancellation fees may apply.

If you’ve had a significant change in guest numbers or plans, talk to us. We’ll help you understand your options before making changes to your booking.

What happens if I hire something and don’t end up using it?

Once an item has been booked and reserved for you, it isn’t refundable simply because it wasn’t used on the day.

We know event plans can change, so if you realise beforehand that your requirements have shifted, get in touch as early as possible and we can talk through your options.

Delivery and Collection

How is delivery and collection calculated?

Delivery isn’t just the drive from our warehouse to your venue.

Your fee takes into account our team’s time to carefully load and secure your order, travel time, mileage, fuel and vehicle costs, unloading on site, returning to our warehouse, then doing the whole thing again when we come back to collect.

Larger orders may require additional vehicles or team members, and early morning, late-night, weekend or long-distance logistics can also affect the cost.

We quote delivery and collection based on your actual booking rather than using a one-size-fits-all fee.

Can I collect my hire items myself?

For many smaller hire orders, yes.

Tableware, linen, backdrops, arches and selected décor can be collected from our warehouse, provided you have appropriate covered transport and can safely secure everything.

Furniture is different. All furniture is delivered and collected by our team.

Our furniture is premium, carefully maintained and often custom-made. Our crew knows exactly how to transport it without your beautiful sofa becoming considerably less beautiful somewhere along SH1.

Can I collect or return items during the weekend?

Our warehouse isn’t open for client collections or returns during weekends.

Will Call orders need to be collected and returned during our warehouse opening hours.

If your event falls over a weekend and you’d rather skip the warehouse logistics entirely, ask us about delivery and collection.

What happens if my booking falls over a public holiday?

We’re closed on public holidays, so your collection or return will move to the applicable working day.

For example, if you were due to collect on a Friday that is a public holiday, collection would move to Thursday. If your return falls on a public holiday Monday, it would move to Tuesday.

There’s no additional hire-period charge simply because of the public holiday.

When will I know my delivery and collection time?

Closer to your event, we’ll gather your final delivery details and logistics, then confirm your approximate delivery and collection windows.

Exact timings are finalised closer to the day because our schedules need to account for multiple events, locations, access requirements and installation times.

We know you have other vendors to coordinate too, so we’ll give you the information you need as soon as our schedule is locked in.

Do I need to be there when you deliver?

You don’t personally need to be there, but someone responsible does.

Your on-site contact needs to know what you’ve booked, where everything needs to go and any instructions you’ve agreed with us.

If we’ve been booked for set-up, having your approved layout or floorplan ready means our team can get straight to work.

Basically, please nominate someone who knows the plan, not just the nearest available uncle.

What happens if I return my order late?

Please tell us as soon as you think you might miss your return window.

Our hire collection often moves quickly from one event to the next, so a late return can affect another client’s booking. Late fees may apply in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

Communication is your friend here. If something has happened, let us know.

Setup + Packdown

Does delivery include setting everything up?

Not automatically.

Standard delivery and collection covers getting your hire items safely from our warehouse to your venue and back again. Your items are delivered for you or your team to set up, then need to be packed down and ready for us when we return.

Want that completely off your plate? Add our set-up and pack-down service.

Our team can place furniture and set up the items we’ve agreed to handle before your event, then return afterwards and pack everything down.

Your to-do list just got a glow-up.

Can you set everything up for us?

Absolutely.

Tell us what you need when we’re quoting your event so we can allow the right amount of crew time.

If you’ve booked styling with us, we’ll work from your agreed styling document and plans so you’re not directing furniture placement while simultaneously trying to get dressed for your wedding.

Be a guest at your own event. We’ve got the heavy lifting.

Do you pack everything down afterwards?

If you’ve booked our pack-down service, yes.

We’ll return at the agreed time and pack down the items included within that service.

If you’ve booked delivery and collection only, everything needs to be cleaned, packed down and ready for our team to collect from the agreed location.

Do I need to clean everything before it is returned?

Yes, with the exception of linen, which we launder ourselves.

Hire items need to come back to us in the same clean condition they left in.

If items are returned dirty, soiled or require additional cleaning before they can be rehired, additional cleaning charges may apply.

What happens if something gets damaged, broken or lost?

First, tell us.

Accidents can happen, and we’d much rather know about something straight away.

You’re responsible for the hire items while they’re in your care. If something is damaged, lost or broken, the costs involved in cleaning, repairing or replacing it may be charged in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

Can furniture be left outside overnight?

No. This one is important.

Hire items, including furniture, cannot be left outside overnight or exposed to rain, dew or severe weather.

Dew counts as moisture too, so an apparently fine Canterbury night can still do expensive things to beautiful furniture.

If you’re planning an outdoor event, make sure there’s somewhere suitable to move or protect the furniture before and after your event.

Can we move the furniture once it has been set up?

Generally yes, but please lift rather than drag our furniture and take care when moving pieces.

If we’ve completed a set-up based on an agreed floorplan, please have that layout finalised before we arrive wherever possible.

If our team is required to significantly rearrange furniture after it has already been placed, additional crew time and charges may apply.

Weddings and Event Planning

I know what I like, but I don’t know how much furniture I actually need. Can you help?

Absolutely. This is exactly where our experience comes in.

Guest numbers are only one part of the equation. We also consider your venue, event format, how long guests will be there, how they’ll move through the space and what different guests may need to feel comfortable.

For cocktail-style events in particular, getting the mix of lounges, cocktail tables, leaners and seated areas right makes a huge difference to guest flow and comfort.

If you’re unsure, book a consultation and we’ll work through it with you.

What if I don’t really know what my style is yet?

Welcome. You are very normal.

You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly curated Pinterest board and a Pantone reference.

Show us what you’re drawn to, tell us what you definitely don’t like, and talk us through how you want your event to feel.

Our styling team can turn those ideas into a cohesive creative direction that works with your venue, budget and guests.

Your Pinterest board, but with actual follow-through.

Can you help with our layout and guest flow?

Yes.

A beautiful event still needs to work.

We consider where guests arrive, sit, eat, drink, mingle and move throughout the event. That means thinking about furniture placement, clear walkways, comfort and how each area connects to the next.

Good styling isn’t just about the flower flow. Guest flow matters too.

Can I book more than just furniture with you?

Very much so.

We offer furniture and décor hire, marquees, styling and design, florals, signage and stationery, wedding coordination, set-up and pack-down.

Having multiple elements handled by one team means fewer emails, fewer handovers and a much more cohesive result.

One vision. One team. Considerably fewer group chats.

If I book styling, do I lose creative control?

Not at all. We’re collaborators, not creative dictators.

Your event still needs to feel like you.

Our job is to understand your taste, priorities and ideas, then bring professional creative direction to them. We’ll guide you when something isn’t going to work, suggest ideas you may not have considered and make sure all the individual pieces actually belong together.

You get to be involved without having to personally make every micro-decision.

What’s the difference between hire and styling?

Hire gives you the pieces. Styling gives you the plan.

With hire, you’re choosing products from our collection and managing how they’re brought together at your event.

Styling goes much further. We consider the overall creative direction, layouts, furniture combinations, colour, detail, guest experience and how everything works together visually and practically.

If you’re confident doing that yourself, fabulous. Hire may be all you need.

If you want someone to take your ideas and turn them into one considered, cohesive experience, that’s where styling comes in.

Marquees

How do I know what size marquee I need?

You don’t need to figure this out alone.

The right marquee size depends on more than your guest count. We also consider your table layout, furniture, bar, dance floor, catering requirements and how you want guests to move through the space.

Tell us what you’re planning and we can help recommend a size that gives you the right balance of atmosphere, guest flow and comfort.

Do you need to visit the site before I book a marquee?

Depending on your site and plans, we may recommend a site visit before everything is finalised.

This allows us to assess the proposed marquee location, access, measurements, ground conditions and any logistical considerations that could affect installation.

Site visits are a paid professional service. The fee includes the costs involved in getting our team to your location, including travel time, mileage and vehicle use, as well as our team’s time and professional expertise on site.

A paddock might look perfectly straightforward in a photo. Sometimes it has other ideas.

What does the marquee need to be installed on?

This depends on the marquee you’re booking and your particular site, so we’ll confirm the requirements with you.

It’s important that you tell us about the ground surface, slope, access and anything unusual about the proposed marquee location when enquiring.

The more we know upfront, the better we can plan.

What site access do you need?

Our crew needs suitable access to the marquee site so we can safely get the structure, equipment and everything required for installation where it needs to go.

If access is narrow, steep, soft, restricted or some distance from where vehicles can park, let us know early.

Photos and videos can be really helpful, and for more complex sites we may recommend a site visit.

When will my marquee be installed?

Marquees are generally installed in the lead-up to your event rather than on the event day itself.

The exact installation day and timing will depend on your marquee, location, weather and our wider event schedule.

Closer to your event, we’ll confirm your installation window and anything we need you or your venue to have ready before our crew arrives.

How long does marquee installation take?

This depends on the size and style of your marquee, your site, flooring, furniture and any additional elements we’re installing.

Some installations can take a significant part of the day, so we’ll let you know what to expect for your particular booking.

Marquee installation is definitely not a pop-up gazebo situation.

Do I need to be there when the marquee is installed?

You don’t necessarily need to be there personally, but we do need an authorised person on site who understands the agreed plan and can make decisions if required.

Your marquee location and floorplan should be confirmed before installation begins. Once a marquee build is underway, moving it isn’t a case of shuffling it two metres to the left.

Having the right person available means our crew can get on with the job without trying to track you down mid-install.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Weather is part of marquee life, particularly here in Canterbury.

Wind, rain and ground conditions can affect installation and pack-down timing. Safety always comes first, so if conditions mean our planned schedule needs to change, we’ll communicate with you and work through the safest option.

This is also why we plan ahead rather than leaving marquee installation until event day.

Do I need a wet-weather plan?

Yes. And we’d much rather make that plan while the forecast is irrelevant than when everyone is refreshing MetService every seven minutes.

For marquee weddings and outdoor events, we recommend thinking through both your ideal set-up and what happens if the weather changes.

Where relevant, we can work through alternative layouts so you know how your guest numbers, furniture and key event areas can work if everything needs to come undercover.

Can I add flooring to my marquee?

Yes, depending on your marquee and site.

Flooring can make a huge difference to both the look and practicality of a marquee, particularly when ground conditions are a consideration.

Talk to us about your site and what you’re planning and we’ll advise what options are suitable.

Can you provide the furniture for inside the marquee too?

Absolutely. This is where having everything under one roof, quite literally, gets rather handy.

We can provide your marquee alongside furniture and hire pieces, and depending on your booking, can also help with styling, florals, signage, set-up and pack-down.

It means your marquee isn’t being planned in isolation. We can consider the whole space, from floorplan and guest flow through to how it actually looks when everyone walks in.

Can you create a floorplan for our marquee?

Yes. Where floorplanning is included within your booking, we’ll work through your guest numbers and key requirements to create a layout that makes sense for the space.

We consider tables, chairs, bars, lounges, dance floors and other important areas alongside practical things like circulation and guest flow.

Because fitting everything in and making everything work are two very different things.

Can our florist or other vendors hang things from the marquee?

Possibly, but please talk to us first.

Anything being attached to or suspended from the marquee needs to be approved so we can make sure it’s appropriate for the structure and can be installed safely.

If your florist, lighting supplier or stylist is planning a hanging installation, let us know well ahead of your event so we can work through what’s required.

What do I need to tell my other vendors?

If another vendor is working in or around the marquee, make sure they know your installation and pack-down timings and any relevant site requirements.

We especially need to know in advance about hanging florals, lighting, catering requirements, generators, toilets or anything else that may affect the marquee layout or installation.

For pack-down, other vendor items need to be removed by the agreed time so our crew can safely get to work.

Do I need power at the marquee site?

If you’ve booked lighting or other powered elements, you’ll need an appropriate power source available.

The exact requirements will depend on what you’ve booked, so we’ll confirm these with you during the logistics stage.

If you’re bringing in generators or working with another power supplier, let us know so we can make sure everyone’s plans line up.

Do I need council consent for a marquee?

This depends on the marquee, location and local council requirements.

Any required building consent or exemption is the responsibility of the client or landowner, so we recommend checking the requirements early in your planning.

If you’re holding your event at a venue, they may already know what applies to the site.

Can we keep the marquee for a next-day event?

Potentially, yes.

If you’re dreaming of a next-day brunch, recovery lunch or round two with whoever is still standing, tell us when you’re booking.

Additional hire charges may apply and we’ll need to factor the extended hire into our installation and pack-down schedule, but we’ll let you know what’s possible for your dates.

When will the marquee be packed down?

We’ll confirm your pack-down timing with you as part of your event logistics.

Weather and site conditions can sometimes affect marquee pack-down, so there needs to be a little flexibility around exact timing.

Before our crew arrives, anything belonging to other vendors needs to be removed from the marquee and the space needs to be ready for us to safely begin dismantling.
